Brighter Things or "How to Write Your Way Out of a Tight Spot"
When it's 3am and you're, once again, hiding in the shower trying like hell not to wake your baby, it's nearly impossible to write anything that's not honest, vulnerable & ... full of hope.
Steven Jackson, the singer & songwriter for Brighter Things, explains "I wrote nearly all of the songs in 1-hour windows where I snuck into the only place I wouldn't disturb our daughter who didn't sleep (or let us sleep) for about two years."
The songs that were born when the Alabama native emerged from his unslept "shower sessions" became Before We Land - a stunning album of lush Americana confessionals that sound like Jackson was secretly bottling up all the grand and glorious life lessons you might need if you ever find yourself somewhere isolated, in the dark ... longing for something a whole lot brighter.
He's joined on the record by Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band), Sean Hurley (John Mayer band), Sam Kassirer (Josh Ritter), Eric Heywood (Ray LaMontagne, SonVolt) & more.
More about Steven Jackson
Up until 2004, Jackson toured as a solo act behind two critically-acclaimed albums including 2001's Steven Jackson & the Leavers Boxfan - which prompted Paste Magazine to exclaim "Jackson writes words more beautiful, evocative & true than you could ever find yourself."
Then in a one-month period he now calls a "divine musical intervention," he found out he was having a child, developed debilitating stage fright, an irrational fear of travel, ... packed up and left Nashville and didn't touch a guitar for 5 years.
In 2009, he became obsessed with sleeping, waking, dreaming, music, God, love ... & the possibilities in all of the above. Brighter Things was born.
